Staff Quality

English Adventure staff are one of the biggest reasons that kids love camp, and want to come back again and again. Our camp team is truly global, with 25-30 countries typically represented each summer. They constantly model how English ability and a global mindset can open the door for fun and friendships. Along with all the excitement and good times at camp, the camp team diligently ensures your child’s well being during their time at English Adventure.

So how do we make sure we have the best camp staff – not only fun and energetic but also capable and committed to caring for your child?

Careful Selection

Many of our new staff are introduced by outstanding camp veterans. They know what it takes and only recommend candidates who will excel at English Adventure. We also recruit through various channels both inside Japan and overseas. We rigorously examine each candidate during multiple interviews, reference checks, and background screening.

Successful candidates demonstrate the personality and values required to be good role models, and to support children of varying needs and abilities. Many have worked at camps in the USA, or bring other childcare and education experience. A serious work ethic and positive attitude are a must. We pick team members who aren’t just looking for a job, but who share our passion to help every child make the most of their camp experience.

Thorough Training

We invest heavily in training at the start of every camp season. All staff complete individual background study prior to arriving onsite for extensive in-person training. We expect a fully professional approach from staff throughout their paid training. Because thorough training is so essential to safety and quality, we only hire staff who can commit to attending all training and also commit to working for the entire camp season. Training includes not only hands-on familiarization with all camp activities, but many other crucial topics including:

  • Health and safety management
  • CPR, AED use, and basic first aid
  • Protection of children from abuse
  • Transportation procedures
  • Facilitation and support for campers of each age and developmental stage

Continuous Support

Our work culture is centered around clear professional standards, accountability, and teamwork in a spirit of enjoyment. Every camp staff receives ongoing support from our Camp Managers and Camp Directors. Our management team are all experienced English Adventure veterans with many seasons of experience to share. They make everyone has the feedback and resources needed to help create awesome camps week after week. If staff need advice or help with any kind of challenge, they always have teammates to turn to. When our camp team is supported and working in a positive professional environment, they’re always eager and able to support your child. And that’s what it’s all about.

After over 20 years of English Adventure camps, we are now steadily welcoming back former campers as adult team members! This has been one of the most heartwarming developments in recent years at English Adventure. It’s our privilege to continue mentoring these fine young adults as they share the magic of camp with a new generation.
